Susan M. Duncan, R. N., Designer
Susan first became involved in accessible design over 35 years ago while working as an R.N. in the areas of neurology and neurosurgery. Realizing that many of her patients were unable to return to their homes after an accident or illness, she became convinced of the need for residential and commercial spaces that would permit greater access and independence for people with disabilities. After augmenting her nursing with education in interior design, Susan founded ADAptations inc® in 1978 and committed herself to increasing awareness of accessible design. In 1998 she developed The ABCs of Accessibility® inc. award winning educational video series and in 2004 she invented and patented the revolutionary design and planning tool, the Visualizer® Set. In the spring of 2007, Susan passed the baton of ADAptations inc® to a new owner to carry on the company's mission. This left the door open for Susan to continue to build on her passion to promote The ABCs of Accessibility® inc. design tools to architects, interior designers, space planners, specifiers, building & homeowners, students and educators in related fields. |
